Community Comes Together to Make the Holidays Brighter

MHACG Staff gather to celebrate the holiday festivities

This holiday season, MHA of Columbia Greene was once again reminded of the incredible compassion and generosity that defines our community.

Through our annual Adopt-a-Family Program, neighbors, businesses, organizations, and individuals came together to ensure local children and families experienced the joy, dignity, and magic of the holidays.

Because of this overwhelming support, more than 90 families — representing over 240 children and youth — received holiday gifts, many of whom otherwise may not have had anything to open this season.

A Season Filled With Joy, Relief, and Gratitude

In the days leading up to the holidays, our staff had the privilege of witnessing moments that are difficult to put into words — parents overwhelmed with relief, children bursting with excitement, and families moved to tears by the kindness of strangers who chose to care.

While we may not have direct quotes to share, the emotions were unmistakable. There were hugs, quiet moments of disbelief, and heartfelt thank-yous that reflected just how meaningful this support was. For many families, this program represents more than gifts — it represents being seen, supported, and valued by their community.

An Outpouring Beyond What We Could Fit in the Room

The generosity this year was extraordinary. So extraordinary, in fact, that the room filled with gifts pictured represents less than half of what was received. Donations poured in faster than we could organize them — boxes stacked high, wrapping paper everywhere, and an unmistakable feeling that something truly special was happening.

MHACG conference room filled with less than 50% of donations received.

Each gift was thoughtfully chosen, each family carefully supported, and each donation is a reminder that collective kindness has real, tangible impact.

Thank You for Making This Possible

To everyone who adopted a family, shared our message, donated funds or gifts, or helped behind the scenes — thank you. Your generosity helped turn stress into relief, uncertainty into joy, and a challenging season into one filled with hope.

From all of us at MHA of Columbia Greene, and from the families we serve, thank you for reminding our community that compassion is powerful, connection matters, and together, we can make the holidays brighter for those who need it most.

Your support is truly a bridge to wellbeing.
