May 2016- Apogee Center

Recovery-The process of change in which individuals improve their wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. Apogee-The farthest or highest point: culmination.

Peer recovery support services help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse. Because they are designed and delivered by peers who have been successful in the recovery process, they embody a powerful message of hope, as well as a wealth of experiential knowledge.

The services can effectively extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the everyday environment of those seeking to achieve or sustain recovery.

Apogee Center staff use a lived experience framework to support the recovery journey of individuals in our community.

Recovery centers, as defined by the Office of Mental Health, are built upon existing peer services but have an outwardly focus. As a recovery center, our primary focus is to help individuals discover their passion, interest, and hobbies and build relationships with others around those activities.

We accomplish this by providing individual and group peer support, facilitating wellness and recovery programs, and encouraging community integration.

Apogee Center is available to adults who want to participate in any of the programs or services to improve their mental wellness. A variety of programs are available to help individuals explore or expand interests they have.

Programs include creative writing, Expression and Connection (drop in art group), Try It On, Principles of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP™), Expression Session (formally Open Mic) and memoir writing.

Staff can also escort and support individuals to participate in community groups such as community yoga, trivia night, community gardening, mah jongg, kuumba dance and drumming, and water aerobics.

For those who are interested, staff members are available to meet individually to provide peer support. Individual support is available at the location that makes the individual feel most comfortable, at their home, in the community or at the center.

Peer support service is also available through our weekly conversation circle. The circle provides support, encouragement and empowerment with a focus on wellness and recovery.

Other services available through the center include benefit advisement, connecting to community resources, and employment assistance.

Our Center supports individuals in working towards enriching all elements of their life. Our programs encourage growth and exploration within the eight dimensions of wellness.

All programs and services available through the Center are free of charge and open to individuals who feel they would benefit from them. Our inclusive supportive community invites everyone to join into any of the programs and meet people with similar experiences.
