The REACH Center strives to help all survivors of crime or abuse cope with the effects. The mission of The REACH Center is to eliminate interpersonal violence and to promote, represent, and address the interests of survivors of such crimes in Columbia and Greene Counties and to serve these communities by advocating for the needs of victims of other violent crimes. The REACH Center has been serving Columbia and Greene counties for over 35 years. In 2009, The REACH Center joined with The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties, Inc. to strengthen the resolve of its mission and serve as an integrated service in the community.
Some services that we provide are a 24 hour crisis hotline, medical/criminal justice accompaniments, information and referral, assistance with crime victim compensation, counseling/therapy for survivors and their families, support groups, community education, and volunteer opportunities. All of our services are free and confidential. Feel free to contact us for any additional information or to make a referral.
In addition to the services that we provide, REACH also helps organize community events to help bring awareness and celebrate our survivors. During the month of August, REACH organizes National Night Out (NNO) in Greene County and Community Night Out (CNO) in Columbia County. This year will be our 6th year hosting these events and they are always successful and a blast for everyone who attends.
NNO is a national event that takes place on the first Tuesday of every August. The purpose of NNO is to promote police-community partnerships; crime and drug prevention; safety; and neighborhood unity. The event is always held at Dutchman’s Landing in Catskill and is free to the community. We offer free hotdogs and ice cream sundaes, music donated by DJ Jack Bogarsky, and a variety of family fun activities such as hula-hoop contest, relay races, art and crafts, and bounce houses. There is also the opportunity to receive an array of information from other service providers throughout the community. Our local police officers even help cook and serve ice cream. It’s a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and local law enforcement, all while having a great time with your family.
CNO is an adaptation of NNO with the same purpose and free family fun. The event is always held at the Henry Hudson Waterfront Park in Hudson and is a collaboration of REACH, and the Columbia County Child Fatality Team.
This year NNO is Tuesday, August 7th, from 4-7pm and CNO is Thursday, August 23rd, from 4-7pm. If your program is interested in having a table at either event, please feel free to contact us and we can set it up. Or….just come on out with your families and have a great time! We hope to see you all there!!
