This year the Water Street Studio has transitioned to a recovery center. Our mission is to provide peer support to people in the community who are pursuing mental health recovery and empowerment.
We are located at 126 Water Street in the village of Catskill and are open on Tuesdays from 12:20 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This means that our studio is not solely destination, but a place to connect with the greater community by connecting people to local events, groups and activities.
The goal is to integrate people with the greater community by exploring and helping find life passions which bring hope and well-being.
We focus on the six elements of the whole-person wellness model by offering groups in the community, open-studio and a wellness group at the studio.
We will be continually working to add new groups. We have an art group at the Catskill Community Center (now featuring stamp carving) and a writing group at Magpie Bookstore in Catskill.
Our wellness group meets weekly at the studio with different topics each week. A list of our programs is available on our website www.waterstreetstudio.space and you can join us on Facebook.
We will also offer advocacy, interfacing with our peers in the community and escorting to events, group and activities. We want all people to feel valued and a part of their community. It is often the case where the stigma of a mental health diagnosis is worse than the symptoms.
As we interact in the greater community with peer support through groups and activities this will become a real stigma-buster. I have already seen people, who are opening up, exploring opportunities and making great strides.
I see great changes taking place for our peers in Greene County this year. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you visit the studio. We have much to offer each other and look forward to all the opportunities of a new year. Look for our open house in the spring.
